For the United States, we’ve added the Distributional Financial Accounts from the Federal Reserve. The dataset provides data on private individuals assets, broken down per Age Group, Education, Generation, Income, Net Worth, and Race, and helps analyzing wealth distribution in the US across these categories.
In the charts below, we looked at the Total Assets per Age Group.
The first chart focuses on the historical trends (the dataset starts in Q3 1989). Rebasing the data from Q1 1990 allowed us to compare assets growth across age groups, and while the ‘Senior’ groups (above 55 years old) are the clear winners, the gap has increased significantly since the 2008 financial crisis, especially with the age group 40 to 54 which was previously following the same path.
The second chart is zooming in the GFC Crisis and its consequences. The chart indicates that it took two years for the Senior groups to rebuild their assets to the pre-GFC levels, while it took 9 years for the younger age groups.
Europe
For Europe, a new dataset has been made available by Eurostat, reporting the monthly numbers of Commercial Flights per country.
United Arab Emirates
For the UAE, we’ve just added CPI Weights for Abu Dhabi, giving users the opportunity to measure the underlying drivers of inflation in Abu Dhabi.
While Recreation and Transport were the two main components having a negative impact on inflation in 20202 – due to the pandemic – they are now the ones pushing inflation up, with the re-opening of the domestic economy and international tourism.
