We’ve just added a new table from the Household Debt and Credit Report published by the New York Federal Reserve. The data is broken down by category of debt and age group. 

The chart below summarizes the Q3 2022 report by calculating the percentage share of each age bracket per product type.  

World

Xeneta shipping indices, compiled by Compass, are now available to our users. Eight different shipping routes can be tracked on a daily basis. The methodology used can be consulted here: https://www.compassft.com/wp-content/uploads/XSI-C_Methodology.pdf

In the chart below, we track the prices of these eight routes, and highlight the “old normal” range: the pre-pandemic high and low. As one can see, shipping costs had an unprecedented boom from the second half of 2020 as the pandemic caused bottleneck issues across global supply chains. 

Shipping costs are mostly back to their pre-pandemic ranges – except routes from Northern Europe to the east coasts of the U.S. and South America. 

Sweden

Rate hikes have hit real-estate prices across the world, and Sweden is no different. We’ve added Booli, a new source for house prices in the biggest Nordic economy. 

In the chart below, we focused on apartment prices in the three largest Swedish cities. We measured the percentage change since the pre-pandemic high, which occurred in August 2017. 

In just a few months this year, Stockholm and Gothenburg lost several years of gains and are near their 2017-18 lows. Malmö, which had experienced the strongest price boom, is still more expensive than five years ago, but the decrease from the April 2022 peak is still quite steep. 

Australia

We’ve expanded our labour market coverage with the addition of indicators from SEEK Australia, a leader in online employment marketplaces. Two main datasets are available: one focusing on advertised salary, the other on actual job advertisements. 

In the chart below, we looked at year-on-year growth for the advertised salary index in the various Australian states and territories. The Australian Capital Territory stands out; we compared the seat of the federal government with the high, low, and average for the seven remaining states and territories. While the drop during the pandemic wasn’t as strong in the ACT, Canberra and its surroundings have trailed the rebound;  the rest of the country is posting an average increase of almost 5% year on year, while advertised salaries in the ACT are growing just 1%.
