Highlights
Argentina
We’ve increased our real estate data coverage for Argentina, adding apartment prices for Buenos Aires and its various neighborhoods. Prices are expressed in USD per square meter.
To display the complete set of time series, we chose to build a bar chart highlighting the price changes pre- and post- pandemic. Covid-19 generated a major shift: while prices were up in all neighborhoods pre-pandemic, they have all declined since January 2020.
South Korea
For South Korea, we’ve added data tracking weekly credit card spending. The national statistics office’s dataset is calculated relative to a January 2020 baseline, and provides various breakdowns: by gender, age and product type.
In the chart below, we tracked credit card spending by age as a one-month moving average. Two main trends appeared with the onset of the pandemic: while the youngest group (aged 20 or below) was spending more as Covid-19 first spread, since 2022, this cohort has shown the smallest spending increase compared to that January 2020 baseline. On the other side of the spectrum, many older people have increased their spending, notably the groups aged 50-59 and 70-plus.
France
For France, we’ve added datasets covering traffic volume (as measured by passenger and flight volumes) for Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Orly airports from ADP, the Paris airports operator.
In the chart below, we examined passenger traffic at CDG, the busiest of the two and one of the main international hubs for Europe. Has 2022 been the year where traffic finally normalised post-pandemic? We found that after a slow start in the first four months of the year, we are back to the average passenger volumes seen during the 2000-2019 period.
China
For China, we’ve expanded our data coverage of terms-of-trade indicators. Users can now access export and import prices broken down per broad economic category (BEC).
In the chart below, we calculated the terms of trade for each BEC classification and rebased them to 100 in January 2018 for comparison purposes. Terms of trade are defined as the ratio between the index of export prices and the index of import prices. In our chart, terms of trade above 100 should be interpreted as positive, meaning that for the same amount of exports, China can import more of the same product.
